David Lanz???

Can we please reach a concensus that David Lanz is NOT a classical composer?? He writes amateurish crap in a new age style. His pieces have formalistic problems and his voice leading is dreadful. And they are insipid and banal.

I had no idea who this character was, but prompted by your question I went in pursuit of enlightenment and, yes, he's not much of a composer of any kind, really. "Amateurish" is perhaps a little harsh, but I can live with "crap", as I can with "insipid" and "banal". Perhaps garnished with "tedious"?

(And there was I thinking that Michael Nyman was mindnumbing... )

One or two of the cd-covers weren't without merit, though... :-)
